I am going to write that my WOF updated recently.
Overall WOF
I bought a car which has three stickers. For example, self-contained, WOF and rego. WOF is like a vehicle inspection. It is different timing among cars. My car is made in 2008 so I need to check my WOF per a year. Recent cars check once per three years and cars made in 2000 before check once per half year.
I am not sure about inspection items because there ara a lot of items. For example, outside bumpers and glass. Moreover, enginee and brake of inside are checked. In my case, I rejeckted my WOF because of lights, steering and bumper.
Inspection of WOF
We can check WOF wherever. It depends on places where we can check WOF this day or next day, but we book in one week normally. I recommend to book early. However, it takes for a long time when you reject checking WOF so that it is better to update early if it is possible.
It takes for one hour for inspection. After that, if a car fixes, it depends on parts, but it takes for a few hours to few days. As I wrote, it is better to book in one month because it takes for one week for booking. Moreover, we need booking when we must fix and re-check WOF.
Expired WOF
In addition, when I drove with expired WOF and the police checked my car, I had to pay fine. It cost $200. Actually, it is no problem when I go to the car service shop. Nevertheless, if I used my car for other purpose and the police checked it, I had to pay fine also. It is not difficult to trick in rural area.
I booked before expiring so that I drove with expired WOF. Of cource, I hardly went to city area. Fortunately, I got a farm job. The police did not check my car in the farm.
I finished updating my WOF like that. I do not worry about my car. I have rego updating, but I will apply a new label from the post office. See you later.

私が買った車は3つほどのステッカーがあります。セルフコンテインド、WOF、regoですね。WOFは車検のようなもので車によってチェックするタイミングが異なります。私の車は2008年物なので1年に一回ですね。最新のものなら3年に1回や2000年以前だと半年に1回だったりします。
検査項目については色々ありすぎて私はあまりわかってないですね。外部のバンパーやガラスはもちろん内部のエンジンやブレーキなども細かくチェックされると思います。私の場合はライトやステアリング、バンパーなどが検査に引っかかってました。
WOFの検査について
WOFは色んな所でチェックを受けることができます。場所によっては即日や翌日もできるかと思いますが、大体1週間ぐらい先の予約になります。なので早めに予約することをおすすめします。また、検査に引っかかると更に時間がかかるので更新ができるようになったらすぐ更新する方が良いですね。
検査自体は1時間ぐらいで終わります。その後、修理する場合は修理箇所にもよりますが数時間から数日かかることもあります。先ほども書きましたが予約に1週間、修理が必要なら修理と再チェックに予約が必要だったりするので1ヵ月は余裕を見たほうが良いですね。
WOFが切れた場合
ちなみにWOFが切れた状態で走行し、警察にチェックされた場合は罰金になります。大体$200ですね。もちろん修理に向かってる最中であれば問題ありませんがそれ以外の用途で使用して見つかったら罰金ですね。都市部でなければばれにくいとは思いますが。
私は更新が切れるぎりぎりに予約をしたのでWOFの更新が切れた状態で走行をしていました。もちろん都市部にはあまり行かないようにしていましたが。それから幸いなことにファーム系の仕事が良かったです。ファーム内ならチェックされることはないですからね。
といった感じでWOFの更新が無事に終わり、車の心配はほぼなくなりました。後はregoが残っていますが、これは郵便局でラベルを新しく発行すれば大丈夫なので特に問題ないかと。ではでは。

I recently renewed the Warrant of Fitness (WOF) for my car, so I would like to describe the process and share what I learned. In New Zealand, a WOF is a mandatory safety inspection for vehicles, similar to a vehicle inspection certificate in some other countries. My car has three important stickers displayed: the self-contained certificate, the WOF label, and the registration label (commonly called “rego”). The inspection interval varies depending on the age of the vehicle. Since my car was manufactured in 2008, it requires an annual inspection, whereas newer vehicles may only need to be inspected every three years, and older models, especially those manufactured before 2000, may require inspections every six months.
The WOF inspection covers a wide range of components. In my case, the vehicle initially failed the inspection due to issues with the headlights, steering components, and bumper alignment.
WOF inspections can be conducted at various garages and automotive service centres. While some places may offer same-day appointments, it is common to wait approximately one week for a booking, especially during busy periods. Therefore, it is advisable to schedule the inspection well in advance. If a vehicle fails the inspection, additional time is required for repairs, and another appointment will be needed for the re-inspection. Considering the potential delays for bookings and repairs, it is reasonable to allow at least one month before the WOF expiry date to ensure a smooth renewal process.
Driving with an expired WOF is illegal. If stopped by the police, the driver may receive a fine of around $200. It is generally acceptable to drive the vehicle only when travelling directly to a repair shop or inspection centre, but using the vehicle for any other purpose may result in penalties. When my WOF expired, I minimized travel in urban areas and mainly remained on the farm where I was working, as it is unlikely to be checked in such environments.
Fortunately, the repairs were completed, and my vehicle passed the re-inspection. As a result, I no longer have concerns about vehicle safety compliance. The next step is to renew the registration label, which can be done easily at a post office. With that, all necessary maintenance should be up to date.
